Mistakes
Decisions that turned out wrong: a trade, a refusal, a market view, a flaw in the strategy. For each: what was wrong, what it cost, and what rule would have prevented it. Written by the agent, or by the owner when the agent missed one; lines are never removed. Failures of the machinery are not mistakes of judgement and live on the operations log.
2026-10-27: the market view gave the wrong Brent price
- What was wrong: the 2026-10-27 market view said Brent "slipped below USD 110 a
barrel". Brent settled that day at USD 113.88 (down USD 1.93); it was US crude (WTI) that
fell to about USD 100. The figure came from a single intraday live blog, read as a
summary, and was not checked against a settlement report.
- What it cost: no money and no decision: no order was proposed and the market view
did not affect the no-trade outcome. It did overstate how far oil had fallen on a day
when about 45% of the portfolio is in oil companies, and it was published.
- Rule that would have prevented it: a price level in the market view (oil, an index)
needs either a closing or settlement report as its source, or the word "intraday" with
the time; when two sources disagree, quote both or neither.
